Every New session brings hope and aspirations!
The new session started with lot of zeal and enthusiasm at Salwan Public School, Gurugram on April1, 2021. The learners were geared up and looking forward for various activities that would help to educate, brighten and enlighten the brilliant minds. ‘Talent Hunt’ was organised on April 3, 2021 to provide an opportunity to each child to showcase his/her talent through a minute presentation.
Integrated theme based approach was adopted to teach the students the importance of family members along with the development of speaking and listening skills. Students learnt about Family members, their roles, and types of families and importance of family. ‘Family tree’- activity was given to the students to complete by drawing/ pasting pictures of their family members. Number names were revised and concept of zero was introduced through a video and storytelling. Students were able to learn about ‘self’ and ‘Friends’ through an activity. They enjoyed clay moulding activity and made beautiful smiling faces.
World Health Day Celebration-Report
Grade 1and 2 of Salwan Public School, Gurugram celebrated the World Health Day on April 7, 2021 virtually through the zoom platform. The facilitators apprised the students about the first World Health Assembly held on April 7, 1948. Founding Day of WHO is celebrated as World Health Day each year since 1950.The objective of World Health Day is to spread awareness around the globe on a specific issue related to health. Each Year a particular theme is selected that highlights the priority area of public health. Some themes are Food safety, make cities healthier, healthy blood pressure etc. The theme for 2021 is “Building a Fairer, Healthier world.” WHO is calling on leaders to ensure that everyone has living and working conditions that are conducive to good health – a campaign on this will be launched on the World Health Day 2021.
The students learnt to read the chapter ‘My Home’ and were able to understand the meaning of the new words. They learnt the concept of jumbled words and were able to un-jumble through a game. The students applied their reading and comprehension skills by attempting a google form and solving a crossword puzzle. They also practiced reading sentences using swar and vyanjan in Hindi. Concept of tens was introduced through a video and an activity using pencils/ice-cream sticks etc. and making bundles of ten. Students enjoyed playing ‘Passing virtual ball’ to their friends and were able to learn about their friends. They learnt about external/internal body parts through a video and ‘Simon Says game’. However, concept of internal body parts and their functions was difficult for most of the students to understand. A speaking activity was organised during CTP on Saturday, April 17, 2021 in which students introduced themselves and shared an amazing fact/ health and hygiene with their peers.
Students learnt about jumbled sentences through an activity. Concept of Building numbers was introduced with the help of an abacus which was created by them using empty box/beads/clay. They learnt pronunciation of swar/vyanjan and practiced reading sentences with four letter words. Topic Sense organs and their functions was introduced through an activity. They also learnt about ways to keep our body clean. Students enjoyed playing the game ’Spin the wheel’ and learnt to read and recognise the names of body parts. In their Art class, they learnt to draw human figures using shapes.
Earth Day Celebration-Report
Restore Our Earth ‘Plant a tree today, extend the life of our Earth.’
A day to celebrate nature and think about different ways to make our planet a better place to live –Earth Day 2021 celebrations were organised by Grade 1and 2, Salwan Public school, Gurugram on April 22. The celebrations commenced with a thought-provoking assembly, where the students were told about reducing our environmental footprint and fixing the damage we’ve already done! The theme, ‘Restore Our Earth’ was explained to the students and they were guided about the steps which can be taken to restore the Earth and replenish its beauty. A brief input about our efforts towards conservation was also shared with them. The students were motivated to conserve water. This was followed by an interactive session wherein they were made aware of their duties towards conserving and restoring the world’s ecosystems. In continuation, Earth Day related activities were conducted for the young learners. The students were asked to plant a sapling, take care of it and write befitting slogans on sheet and hug a tree. The event culminated with the students pledging to put together their efforts and take forward their actions in protecting the Earth, thus giving wings to the true spirit of ‘Save Earth’.
World Book Day -Report
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers.” Charles W. Eliot.
Books are a uniquely portable magic. They have the ability to entertain us and allow us to travel to different places through our imaginary senses. To bring children close to this magic once again, they were apprised about the importance of World Book Day on April 23, 2021. In order to inculcate the love for reading amongst the students the students were given an activity to read any story and suggest an alternate title for the same, draw/sketch their favourite character in the story and create a related book mark. This activity helped them to recognise their creativity and consider themselves as young authors in the making. The students enjoyed the activity thoroughly. They all could relate to how exciting and enjoyable the journey of reading a book can be!
Students were apprised about importance of balanced diet and exercise through a video. A speaking activity was organised on April 27, 2021 in which the learners presented ‘My healthy food platter’ with a minute presentation. Ordering numbers was introduced through flash cards and number strip. Students learnt the alphabetical order through a story and a game. Phonetics workshop couldn’t be held due to unprecedented situation and holidays. Recording of phonetics workshop was shared with the students on kaizala group of each class.
Family Day Celebration-Report
Grade 1and 2 of Salwan Public School, Gurugram celebrated the Family Day on May 1, 2021 online through the zoom platform. Special assembly was organised for the students to realize and perceive the value of family in their life. It enabled them to recognize School as their family and provided a sense of belonging and a unique identity to them. It also created a special emotional feeling in them about their family.
The celebration started with an introduction of the school in which the students were briefed about the Founder of the Salwan School, Late Sh. Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwan. Information was shared about the other branches of Salwan Schools across NCR.
Virtual tour of the school was given to the students to introduce them to the School Family. They enjoyed the glimpses of various school activities and were familiarized with their classrooms, playground, library etc. through slide show.
Family Day card making activity was organized to express the creativity and emotions of the students for their family. Children enjoyed singing and dancing with the lyrics of Family Day song.
It was a day full of fun and excitement for the students to revive and rekindle the importance of love and affection among the members of the family.
