Achievers’ Day 2017

Salwan Public School, Gurgaon celebrated its Achievers’ Day on 14th and 15th July 2017 in the school auditorium. In a two-day event, the school awarded the meritorious students with trophies, medals and certificates for their commendable performance in both scholastics and co-scholastic spheres during the year 2016-17. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries amidst the rendition of Ganesh Vandana by the school choir. The Acting Principal, Ms. Anshu Mital gave the welcome address and lauded the efforts of the students for their splendid achievements in various National and International level competitions. She, in her address said that the school aims not only to educate students but also strives at imparting right values for holistic development. The Director Maj. S.K. Kohli motivated the students to aspire higher in life and urged them to be good human beings.

The Chief Guests were Mr. Sandeep Khirwar, Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, Dr. D. Suresh, Divisional Commissioner, Gurugram and Faridabad and Dr. Kapil K Tripathi, Senior Scientist at Vigyan Prasar. Mr. Khirwar encouraged the students to take the path of hard work and to never opt for short cuts as hard work will only pave way for a bright future. Dr. Suresh in his address said, ‘We should shrug off our insecure mindsets of pursuing only conventional professions like doctors, engineers, rather we should allow students to chase their dreams and excel in different spheres of life like sports, arts and communication. ’Both the days witnessed a short cultural programme which showcased the talent of the children. The mesmerising dance performances of the Salwanians held the audience spellbound. The various categories in which prizes were awarded included: Class Topper, Section Topper, All Rounder, Subject Toppers and avid readers. The students were also felicitated for their achievements in co-curricular activities like Sports, Visual & Performing arts and IT. The stream toppers and students who secured 10 CGPA were also awarded at this function. The function culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by the Vice Principal Ms.Gulroop Kaur wherein she thanked everyone and congratulated all the award winners for their success.

MUSEUM DAY (18 May, 2017)

Extempore Speech Contest A team of five students from Salwan Public School, Gurgaon participated in the ‘Extempore Speech Contest’ conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the occasion of the World Museum Day on 18th May 2017, at Swatantra Sangram Sangrahalaya, Red Fort, Delhi. 40 prestigious schools from Delhi NCR participated in the competition. Participants spoke spontaneously on the topics like ‘Night spent at a Museum’, ‘World Heritage Sites’. The participants also went for a Heritage Walk in the Red Fort Complex (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Students received participation certificates, books, postcards and a cap. Anusha Singh of X-A won the Second Prize and Neha Jaglan of X-B won the First Consolation Prize Overall it was a great learning experience and the students got a lot of exposure.

Aaryan Garg : The Building Scientist

Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) jointly with Vigyan Prasar –Ministry of Human Resource Development has organized the National Science Talent Search for Future India Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) across the country. 1.4 lakh students from 1472 schools from all the 29 states and 5 union territories from class VI-XI participated in the exam. Through 20 camps 264 students were selected as National level winners from 2400 students. These 264 students have undergone a two-day national camp at IIT Delhi, under an academic committee of eminent scientists and selected 18 students as national science talents of the year named as HIMALAYANS. Aaryan Garg of Class IX from Salwan Public School Gurgaon was first in std nine and one of the 18 Himalayans. Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar felicitated National Science Talents of the Year 2016-17 on 14-June-2017.The winners were awarded with mementoes and certificates by the Minister. He also met Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Honorable Minister of Science and Technology and Dr. D K Aswal, Director of National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

DOON CUP 2017

Doon Cup 2017, School Girls Soccer League was organised by Soccer Foundation India at Hopetown Girls School Dehradun from 28th - 30th April 2017. From all over country total 16 teams had participated in this league. The Girls Soccer team from Salwan Public School Gurgaon had also participated amongst them. The tournament was organised on league basis. Doon Cup is to encourage and to develop elite School Girls Soccer across India. School Girls Soccer is the foundation to an elite professional India Women Soccer. Doon Cup is an integral component to take India to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027. Selected players from DOON CUP to play as TEAM INDIA in the World’s Largest International Youth Tournament – DANA CUP HJORRING DENMARK in July 2017 32 players were shortlisted from the 13 Schools Participants for opportunity to travel as Team India Squad to Denmark. Somya (Class – IX) from our school had been shortlisted for DANA CUP HJORRING DENMARK in July 2017.

Thought Conclave

Six students from Salwan Public School, Gurgaon participated in an event ‘Thought Conclave’ organised by B K Birla Centre for Education, a residential school, Pune on October 2, 2016. Various eminent schools all across India participated in this event. The Conclave witnessed a plethora of activities and accomplishments. The events that took place were- Debate, Creative Writing and Trilogue. The programme commenced with the arrival of Creative Mentor, Mr. Parnab Mukherjee who was the guest of honour. The first event was the debate, our team included three students, P. Dhwanish, Amrit Kaur and Siddharth Trigunayat.

The debate had three rounds:

Preliminary round: Topic- Cimate Change Refugees vs. Climate Status Quo. Semi-Final round: Topic- Terrorism occurs due to lack of diversified cultural education. Final round: Topic- Peace in Kashmir is a missed opportunity. The final event, The Trilogue was a short play, our team included one silent actor, Bahaar Batra and two other actors P. Dhwanish, Siddharth Trigunayat. (The topic of the trilogue was “Where the mind is with fear, and the head is bowed low”)
